Why WiFi Routers May Show an Incorrect Location
Tracki updates its location using GPS satellites or Wi-Fi routers. For Wi-Fi tracking, the device detects nearby routers
and assumes the one with the strongest signal is closest. Since routers don’t store location data, Tracki relies on a
database updated by internet providers (ISPs) to estimate their location. If a router has been moved, it can take a week
or more for the database to update, causing Tracki to show an outdated or incorrect location, sometimes linked to a
nearby router’s previous address.
